Our good and relational God created the world,

so our lives find purpose in His presence as His image-bearers.

Because Genesis reveals who God is and why we exist

This makes all of life worship and means we live as stewards of creation.

Small Group Resources

Genesis 3:8–24 Discussion

Questions:
  • How does understanding consequences vs. punishment change your view of difficult circumstances?
  • Where do you see the “thorns and thistles” in your own work or relationships?
  • How can we participate in God’s mission to restore blessing in a cursed world?
  • What does it mean to you that humanity was never directly cursed, but lives in a cursed environment?
  • In what specific ways can you be a “mission partner” with God in your daily life – bringing glimpses of restoration to a broken world?
  • How does Wright’s perspective that “the Bible is not just about solving our sin problem” but about God’s comprehensive mission change how you read Scripture?
  • How does Jennings’ concept of “place-based identity” help you understand both the original design in Eden and the restoration we hope for?
  • Where do you see examples of “displacement” in our modern world, and how can the church work to restore “intimate community”?
Practice: Pray a prayer of confession, either privately or as a group. Acknowledge brokenness and receive God’s mercy.

Genesis 3:1-7 Discussion

Reading: Genesis 3:1–7
Questions:
  • What strategies does the serpent use to distort God’s word?
  • How do you see similar lies at work in your own life?
  • Why do you think humans are drawn to define good and evil for themselves?
  • How can we practice trusting God’s word together as a community?
Practice: Do a “truth inventory.” Write down a lie you are tempted to believe about God or yourself, then counter it with a verse of Scripture.
