- Scott opened with the phrase he has said to his son Chase — “I am jealous for your time.” Have you ever felt someone being jealous FOR you (rather than of you)? What did it feel like? What made it different from jealousy in its ordinary sense?
- Read Deuteronomy 4:23-24 together. What does the phrase “consuming fire” bring up for you honestly — before you’ve had time to reframe it theologically? Where does that reaction come from?
- Moses assumes in verses 25-28 that Israel will wander. Not “if” but “when.” What does it do to you to know that God is not surprised or defensive about our wandering — that his relationship with his people has always had the wandering baked in?
- A.W. Tozer described every person as “a permanent, eternal fixture in the mind of God.” What would change in the way you live this week if you actually believed that — that you have never fallen out of God’s mind, and never will?
- What is one thing in your life right now that is quietly competing for the loyalty that belongs to God? Not a dramatic idol — a real, ordinary one. Name it. What would it look like to bring it under God’s fierce, protective, jealous love this week?
