Story Formed

One of the greatest times of repentance I have ever had happened when I was in Mongolia. MY wife Alison wanted to be a missionary, but I really didn’t. So we set out on a one year adventure, that in my mind meant we were getting missions out of our system. Alison was hoping it would convince me to be a long-term missionary. There were a lot of amazing ways we encountered God while we were there, but one in particular forever changed me. We were taken to a little gathering of believers. It was a church but not in the traditional western sense (in my view). This expression of the Body of Christ was distinctly Mongolian. It was beautiful and different and holy. It blew my mind because I had such a small box that I put church and God into. There was a very narrow way to “church”. What a fool I was. When I saw that Mongolian Body of Christ I was amazed, I was convicted, I rejoiced, I repented. Tears filled my eyes and the Lord kindly gave me a glimpse of just how big and amazing He is! I had been a follower of Christ for over a decade at that point, but it was in that encounter that Jesus truly met with me. I said, “I’m sorry Lord for thinking of you as so small.” Since then it has been my passion and privilege to see this kind of unique expressions of the Body of Christ all around the world. Currently my wife and I are serving with Pioneers as you guessed it: long-term missionaries in Albania. I long to see God call for his Bride amongst the Roma Gypsy population of Albania, the Balkans and all of Europe. Praise God for His plan that has always been bigger than mine. Praise God that He allows us to join Him in it.
