Afghan Family Support

Two members of our church community, Caleb and Jordan Cienski, are partnering with the Apartment Assistance for Afghans Program through the Center for Refugee Services (CRS), a non-profit here in San Antonio. The mission of CRS is to promote the wellness, self-sufficiency, and successful community integration of resettled refugees and their families. Since 2010, CRS has been providing necessary material items as well as education opportunities, health and wellness, employment and language training, technical training, parenting classes, and other much needed community support. This week the Cienski’s has been placed with a family of 6- parents and 4 children, two girls ages 9 and 15 and two boys ages 10 and 13. Your donations of new or gently used items are greatly appreciated to help ease this families transition into their new home. Please make sure everything is clean and free of animal dander/hair. Please be culturally aware and remember that new arrivals have lost everything- country, friends, relatives back home, even their identities. If you would prefer to donate money to support this effort, you can click here. To see items needed you can click here. If you are able to donate any of these items please message Jordan Cienski at jordan.cienski@gmail.com. You can bring items to church this Sunday.

If you have a larger furniture item you would like to donate and the slot is already filled, message Jordan and she can see if another family is in need. For more information about CRS, you can visit their website by clicking here.

The biggest needs right now are:

-4 twin mattresses. It can be hard to find a gently used twin mattress so we may just go purchase those. Donations to the Park Refugee Fund can help in this effort.

-3 twin comforters/quilts: one for a boy and two for the girls

-jackets, one for each child that would be appropriate for San Antonio weather.

Discipling Your Preschooler Workshop

Join us Sunday November 7th from 2-4 PM at Castle Hills Christian School for our Discipling Your Preschooler Workshop. Our desire is to create space for learning, discussion, friendship and prayer as we look at what it takes to disciple young children. We believe you are the priests of your household and we want to come along side you to equip and encourage you on this journey. Childcare will be provided or we will also reimburse babysitting costs. Register today by clicking here and help us spread the word!

Volunteer Highlight: Connections

The Park’s volunteer Connections Team welcomes our church community in each Sunday through a variety of ways and is lead by Nancy Gaines. This team not only welcome people in through greeting, but we set the tone for our church as they enter the building. If you think of the spaces you’ve felt the most welcomed, it’s interactions with people where you are welcomed with a smile, a friendly greeting, and you feel at home. That is what the Connections team tries to create each Sunday. Pre-service there are several areas to welcome people at. After service we gather at the Connection Area in the back of the room to answer any questions, meet new people, and help connect them via the forms on the iPads. Currently we are in need of volunteers specifically on the 3rd and 4th Sundays of the month. We encourage all volunteers to attend our prayer and worship time at 9:15am, and the Connection team gathers at 9:30 afterwards to go over invitations and events coming up. If you are interested in volunteering on the Connections Team, or any of our volunteer teams, you can click here.
