I wait for the Lord, my soul does wait, and in His word do I hope. O Israel, hope in the Lord; for with the Lord there is lovingkindness, and with Him is abundant redemption.

~Psalm 130

Hope is something that can feel foolish in this cultural moment we find ourselves in. In one way or another, we are all isolated right now. We are isolated from our church community, from our normal routines and from family. A danger I fear many of us are on the verge of slipping into is isolation from God as well. In this isolation, we are being forced to slow down and assess where the source of our hope lies. Is it in ourselves? Our church leaders? Our government officials? Or is it in the Only One who can save? I’m sure at one point or another, we have all misplaced our hope in something other than Christ. There is no shame in that, but the Holy Spirit is calling us to place our trust in Him, over and over and over again. David used his isolating life to wait on the Lord. To grow his hope in God through meditating on His Word. He knew that this hope and confidence in God would be met with lovingkindness and abundant redemption. If you are finding yourself bogged down by the weight of the world, know that it is not yours to carry. Your loving Heavenly Father is reaching out to carry that burden. As David called Israel, I call on you, my church family to hope in the Lord. May this time of isolation mark us as a people who confidently wait on and hope in Christ alone to bring about redemption.
