Greetings! Below you will find questions which reference the sermon preached on Sunday, January 25th, 2015 at The Park. This week we studied Chapters 12-13 of Genesis. Have someone in your group read this section of scripture.

Intro to Tent & Altar:
Abraham was a man called and sent by God. He is revered in Islam, Judaism, and Christianity today. Abraham’s name was originally “Abram”, which means ‘the father is exalted’. His name was changed to “Abraham”, which means ‘father of a multitude’, when God initiated His covenant with him (Genesis 17). God promised Abraham that he would be the father of many people. As we study his life and journey of faith in Genesis, we believe we will be challenged and encouraged by what we see and hear. Simply put, Abraham trusted God and believed God could accomplish all that He had promised.
Questions for this week:
- “By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.” ~Hebrews 11:8. How would you define faith?
- Read Genesis 12:1-9. List out the promises that you find in this passage. If this were you instead of Abram, how might you have responded?
- Do you agree that Abram’s journey into Egypt (verses 10-20) due to the famine in the land was a lapse of faith? Why or why not?
- Assuming the Egypt represents the world and our common practice of turning to it when faced with external difficulties, what would you describe as a modern day “Egypt” in our world today? In your world?
- In Chapter 13 we see Lot and Abram part ways. How does Lot’s choosing the Jordan Valley differ with Abram’s ability to give away control?
- God blessed the entire earth by sending Jesus through the line of Abraham. Spend time discussing and retelling the promises given to you by Jesus. Are you doubting these promises today or living in a fearful posture concerning their fulfillment?
