Led by the light of Faith serenely beaming

With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand

So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming

Here come the Wise Men from Orient land

The King of kings lay thus in lowly manger

In all our trials born to be our friend

He knows our need, to our weakness is no stranger

This coming Sunday in all three of our parishes we will be reflections on Placide Cappeau’s poem, “O Holy Night.” I have listened to the hymn dozens of times in preparation for this week. The second verse, depicts Jesus as, “The King of kings lay thus in lowly manger; In all our trials born to be our friend.” I am overwhelmed by the idea that the God incarnate turns his attention to my trials. I am overwhelmed that in a season of chaos the God of all creation has time for me. The poet turns this powerful truth into a simple request, “to love one another.” I hope that in this Advent season you will feel the presence fo your Heavenly Father and that you will turn your attention to your neighbor.

Advent Hymnology Guide

Advent comes from the Latin word adventus meaning  “coming” or “visit.” During the season of Advent, we prepare for and anticipate the coming of Christ. The Park has created a Hymnology guide which includes a weekly candle lighting scripture and prayer. These are the same readings we will be doing each Sunday during the season. Each week also includes a devotional for use in your personal study or in missional community groups along with discussion questions. For a digital copy of the guide you can click here.

Good Market

Tomorrow, December 7th, The Impact Guild, our co-working space, is hosting the Good Market at 708 W. Summitt 10am-4pm. This is an opportunity to shop with purpose this Christmas. The Good Market will feature a collection of impact-oriented pop-up shops creating thoughtful products that bring good into the lives of others. Come find unique gifts with a story worth spreading to the ones you love.

Men’s Prayer

There will be no Men’s Prayer meeting this month for Midtown or Oak Meadow. MacTerrace will meet Friday, December 20th at 8pm. To sign up to be contacted by a parish pastor with details for 2020 prayer meetings and reminders you can click here.
