Advent: Week 3
We encourage you to use The Park’s Advent guides with your Missional Community Group as we have added a section specifically for group meeting.
As you read and study together, make sure to work hard at hearing from everyone that has gathered together. Pray for one another and be accountable to applying the word of God to your lives.
Questions for this week:
Luke informs us that Jesus grew in stature and wisdom in Luke 2:52. Scholars note that this meant Jesus grew in “Spiritual Maturity”. According to the context of the passage, i.e. Jesus being in “His Father’s house”, sitting in the courts listening and asking questions to the teachers, this seems to be the case.
- Why do you think it was necessary for Jesus to grow in Spiritual Maturity? (See Hebrews 8:1)
- How does this help you recognize the need for God’s grace in your own Spiritual growth? As Jesus grew with those around Him, how does this help you see the example to grow with your family, Missional Community, and others in Spiritual Maturity? How are you growing with your community in Spiritual Maturity?
- Why do you think Luke includes the story of Jesus at the Temple when he is 12 years old? This is the only story in the canonical gospels that shows Jesus between birth and his ministry.
- In Verse 48, Mary tells Jesus that “your father and I have been anxiously searching for you” and Jesus responds that He was in his Father’s house. What do you think of Jesus’ response? What does His response mean about the knowledge of who He is?
