In this section there are 13 references to Pharaoh’s heart being hardened. Some of the references say God hardened Pharaoh’s heart (7:3), and some refer to Pharaoh hardening his own heart (8:15). How does this affect your theology of God’s sovereignty and humanity’s free will?

It took ten plagues for the people of Israel to be released. That means God brought unimaginable suffering upon the Egyptians. How do you make sense of that in light of a loving God who sent his Son to die for our sins (see Romans 9:17 for help)?
- Another noticeable theme in this section of chapters is Moses’ obedience and perseverance. He was faithful to appear before Pharaoh and ask for the release of God’s people nine times, even though Pharaoh wanted to kill him, and even though the people were angry with him. What are you standing in obedience and perseverance for in your life right now?
