Good morning!

I hope you have had a great week.

We want to make sure you know about School of Theology this winter. This is one environment of the Park where our core value of equipping the saints for the work of ministry (Ephesians 4) takes place. SOT is a 6-week period in which focused, in-depth study takes place. Our winter semester kicks off on February 6th and will be on Wednesday nights from 6:30-8pm at the Jewish Community Center. There are 4 classes to choose from (see below for descriptions) and registration is open and ready!

{Thinking Biblically} – Mark Bradshaw

As Christians, if we believe that all scripture is God-breathed how do we think biblically about issues that confront us today in our culture? How can we know that all scripture is God-breathed? What does the Bible say about issues such as marriage, abortion, gun ownership and economics (taxes, social security and health care)?

{A Theology of Suffering} – Vicki Petty & Sue Minor

Romans 8:17: For if we are children, then we are heirs, heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we might also share in his glory.
Each of us will suffer in our lives. It is our response to suffering that makes us who we are. Christ gives us many examples of dealing with suffering. How do we live what we believe when everything screams at us that this is the wrong way, that there must be another easier way?
This class will take a realistic look at what Scripture says about suffering.
We’ll be using the following resources:
The Bible, specifically Mark and Job
C. S. Lewis Problem of Pain

{Missional Life – Radical Community} – Chris Nikkel

Believers in the first century understood that the mission of Jesus did not end at his ascension and with their conversion. The faith life they had was expected to be flexible, fast-moving, and unbound. The aim and heartbeat of this class will be to challenge, provoke, and motivate you to embrace the missional DNA and impulse of the early church in your own life.

{We are all ministers} – Scott Austin

The church is awakening to the truth that ministry is not just the domain of clergy, but belongs to the entire body of Christ.  We will study together how each of us can move from passive to active Christ followers breaking the walls down between clergy and the people of God.  Along this journey we will re-envision the church from the role of caregiver to equipping enabler.  This book has had significant influence on forming the DNA of The Park Community.

There are a few other things going on around the Park that we want you to know about:

Galatians Teaching Series: This Sunday we will continue our study of Paul’s letter to the churches in Galatia. One way to get more out of Sunday mornings is to read ahead before coming. So read through Galatians 3 a couple of times and come ready to take some notes.

Galatians Community Groups: One of our core values at the Park is community. If you are looking to connect with other people one place to recommend to you would be one of our community groups. These groups are open to anyone and track with the Sunday sermons with regard to their bible study element. You can find our updated list of groups at www.theparksa.org and click on ‘Community Groups’.

Social Events @ The Park:

If you signed up for the Rodeo on February 12th, your tickets are in! See Amanda, Kaitlin, or Sarah on Sunday to get them or email them at connect@theparksa.org. It’s going to be a great event!
