Good morning!

It was great to be back in community last Sunday and we look forward to seeing you this weekend. One thing we want to make sure you know about this winter is School of Theology. This is one environment of the Park where our core value of equipping the saints for the work of ministry (Ephesians 4) takes place. SOT is a 6-week period in which focused, in-depth study takes place. Our winter semester kicks off on February 6th and will be on Wednesday nights from 6:30-8pm at the Jewish Community Center. There are 4 classes to choose from (see below for descriptions) and registration is open and ready!

{Thinking Biblically} – Mark Bradshaw

As Christians, if we believe that all scripture is God-breathed how do we think biblically about issues that confront us today in our culture? How can we know that all scripture is God-breathed? What does the Bible say about issues such as marriage, abortion, gun ownership and economics (taxes, social security and health care)?

{A Theology of Suffering} – Vicki Petty & Sue Minor

Romans 8:17: For if we are children, then we are heirs, heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we might also share in his glory.
Each of us will suffer in our lives. It is our response to suffering that makes us who we are. Christ gives us many examples of dealing with suffering. How do we live what we believe when everything screams at us that this is the wrong way, that there must be another easier way?
This class will take a realistic look at what Scripture says about suffering.
We’ll be using the following resources:
The Bible, specifically Mark and Job
C. S. Lewis Problem of Pain

{Missional Life – Radical Community} – Chris Nikkel

Believers in the first century understood that the mission of Jesus did not end at his ascension and with their conversion. The faith life they had was expected to be flexible, fast-moving, and unbound. The aim and heartbeat of this class will be to challenge, provoke, and motivate you to embrace the missional DNA and impulse of the early church in your own life.

Radical Together by David Platt

{We are all ministers} – Scott Austin

The church is awakening to the truth that ministry is not just the domain of clergy, but belongs to the entire body of Christ.  We will study together how each of us can move from passive to active Christ followers breaking the walls down between clergy and the people of God.  Along this journey we will re-envision the church from the role of caregiver to equipping enabler.  This book has had significant influence on forming the DNA of The Park Community.

We hope you will join a School of Theology class today! If you have any questions please email us at info@theparksa.org

There are a few other things going on around the Park that we want you to know about:

Prodigal Son Teaching Series: For the first couple of Sundays in January we will be looking at the story of the prodigal son. It is an amazing story of rebellion, redemption and grace. You may be surprised by what you find as you study it. Read through this story found in Luke 15:11-32 as well as Prodigal God by Tim Keller for the sermon on January 13th, 2013.

Starting Point on 1/20/13: What is Starting Point? We do this meeting once a month and it is designed to be a time where you get to find out more about the Park; it’s history, vision, values, etc. It is also a time where you can come with questions and we hope to provide clarity. Most questions get answered through the material that we cover, but not always. So, whether you are new or have been coming for a while, Starting Point is your next step in getting connected and I want to encourage you to join us right after service on Sunday, January 20th. Questions? Email chris@theparksa.org
