Merry Christmas!
There is an “older” worship tune that has been running through my head these past few days. It’s called “Here I am to worship”. I am sure you have heard it and sang it many times. Tim Hughes wrote this song in 1999 as a response to how he felt after reading Philippians 2. This passage speaks about Christ’s humility and how He willingly left His throne in heaven, came to earth as a man, and sacrificed Himself on the cross all because of His love for us. With this passage in mind, Tim picked up his guitar and wrote the song.
I remember singing this song in college and the impact that it had on me. I can also remember when it started to get “old” to me and I began to lose touch with it over the years. This week it’s been playing in my head over and over for some reason. It’s always humbling and amazing when God brings things back around at just the right time. The real truth is that songs like this one should never get old to me. The song, and more importantly the truth found within it, hasn’t changed over the years.
Here I am to worship is a great reminder for us of what this season truly means. I thought I would include the lyrics here. I encourage you to read Philippians 2 and take a fresh listen to this song in preparation for Christmas.
Light of the World
You stepped down into darkness
Open my eyes
Let me see
Beauty that made
This heart adore You
Hope of a life
Spent with You
Chorus:
Here I am to worship
Here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that You’re my God
You’re altogether lovely
Altogether worthy
Altogether wonderful to me
King of all days
Oh, so highly exalted
Glorious in Heaven above
Humbly You came
To the earth You created
All for love’s sake became poor
Bridge:
I’ll never know how much it cost
To see my sin upon that cross
I’ll never know how much it cost
To see my sin upon that cross

Volunteering on Sundays: As our community continues to grow, there are always needs with regard to volunteering on Sundays. We ask people for a once-a-month commitment to reinforce the fact that your primary ministry exists outside of Sunday mornings. If we all take one Sunday per month, we can keep that focus alive. Interested to jump in on Sundays in Family Ministries or Set-Up/Take-down? Email Scott at scott@theparksa.org.
