Time to Eat
by Jacob Kemp
You do not have because you do not ask…James 4:2
When my sons were just babies they had a strict 3 hour feeding rotation. They ate like wild men every 3 hours whether it was the middle of the day or the middle of the night. So like a good father I would anticipate their need and prepare a bottle for them every two and a half hours. Now I planned to give them their bottles at the three hour mark because I knew they needed to eat. Sometimes they would start to cry at the two and a half hour mark and I would give them the bottle then. Other times they would act just fine and not get hungry until the three and a half hour mark. Either way I had the bottle ready for them in anticipation of their need. I waited on them to tell me when they wanted the bottle.
This in many ways is a picture of our relationship to God in our prayer life. He has not only anticipated our needs, but He also has prepared for us blessings in advance. He is waiting to give them to us. Often He has a set time in mind to bless us with His provision. Much of the however, He is waiting on the soft whimper of His children to tell Him that we are ready to eat. God is waiting on us to bring our prayers and petitions before Him. I need not explain to you how God isn’t your fairy godmother, or Santa Clause, but He is the Creator of all things, and He is the Sustainer of all things. If God doesn’t provide it for you no one will.
